The province of Esmeraldas is a wonderful springboard to discovery. Set out to explore not only its placid beaches, palm groves and delicious climate, but let us show you and encourage you to truly let this “emerald green land” surprise you.
A necklace of beautiful beaches
Green 9 is strategically located half an hour from many of the most paradisiacal destinations. Don’t hesitate to visit them, they offer much more than spectacular views and rest in the shade of a palm tree. Great cuisine, awe-inspiring landscapes and viewpoints, whales, cultural experiences and unforgettable trails into forest. Don’t miss out!
Same and Tonchigüe
Green 9 is located on the beach of Same, where its calm, young and family-oriented spirit reigns, with bamboo huts to order a drink from at sunset and the movement of those visiting the Casablanca complex. Tonchigüe, the first beach west of Same, is a fishing port. Do not forget to visit the beach’s bamboo kiosks and look out for the delicious shrimp bolón.
From Súa beach, located just ten minutes from Green 9, you can embark on the fascinating search for Humpback Whales in open ocean (tours take place in July and August, when the whales visit the coastline). At other times, or to complement your whale-watching excursions, visit Isla de Pájaros (Bird Island) and spot the one-and-only Blue-footed Booby.
Atacames, on the other hand, is a town that has become a magnet for those looking for fiesta fun. The fish market and the central park with several nice places to eat or buy smoothies are some of the highlights, as well as the shops and stores that can be providential when you’re seeking out something specific.
Playas of Punta Galera
Punta Galera is the most important “tourist route” in the province. Its beaches are characteristically dominated by the beautiful geological contours created by coastal uplifting and walking their long stretches of rock and sand can bring you to discover crustaceans, herons and other seabirds. Its fishing villages are picturesque, with interesting community projects.
Mompiche has become Ecuador’s most “in” beach in recent times. Recognized for its excellent waves for surfing, it is also an environmentally friendly community that seeks to promote ecotourism. Discover a series of paradisiacal beaches, including Playa Negra, Portete and the desert island of Jupiter. Mompiche is a great place to explore, just an hour away from Green 9.
The Bocanas (river deltas
The most distant beaches from Green 9, but still accessible if one wishes to venture two hours east, are located in the cantons of Rioverde and Eloy Alfaro. Expect to find excellent food and wild beachfront hamlets such as the singular África, where you can even visit a small museum that highlights hundreds of pre-Columbian artifacts that have washed upon the shore.
